Quick guide for adding <> around nicks

This should hopefully show you everything you need to know in relation to adding the <> around peoples nicks when using X-Chat.

Although this is specifically for <nick>, you can also use this as help to edit all of the different text events.

Firstly, you need to go to the text events menu, as shown in the picture below.

From there you need to navigate to 'Channel Message' and click on it

After this, you can then edit the string that appears in the edit box. From the box near the bottom of the 'Edit Events' window, we can see a table with 2 columns '$ Number' and 'Description'. These tell you what the $1 etc mean in the edit box. The $t that appears in most lines is the Text Separator line which separates the nicks from the text. From this one 1 is the Nickname, so we can change the event in the edit box to <$1> then hit enter and you are ready to edit 'Channel Msg Hilight', 'Your Message' and 'Private Message to Dialog' in the same way.

As you can see above, when you hit enter the text event is previewed so you can tinker with it more as you go along... %C are the colours, they can be %Cnn where nn is a number between 00 and 31 or %Cnn,nn where the first nn is the foreground colour and the second nn is the background. %U is underlined %B is bold (all of these will also terminate their own formatting). Also %O is the end of all formatting, wether it be colours, underlined, or anything else, it will end it all and return it to default text.

Once you have edited all the Text Events you want, REMEMBER TO HIT ENTER AFTER EDITING EACH ONE click the 'Save' button in 2.4 or the 'OK' button in 2.6 and they will work immediately (although not retroactively).
